Giants in Berlin
photos by Craig Robinson

Giants walked the streets of Berlin in a weekend long celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall and German Reunification.  These photos were taken on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 on German Unification Day (Deutschen Einheit).  French Theatre Group 'Royal de Luxe' (not related to the Royale with Cheese) hauled these massive marionettes through Berlin over several days.  On Unity Day the puppets met at the Brandenburg Gate for a poignant reunion symbolizing reunification of two lost giants, reunification of Germany and probably some unrelated French stuff we won't be able to understand.

In Pariser Platz, the Little Giantess strolled through the crowd and paused in front of Brandenburger Tor for an ice cream break.  She then walked through the gate and met her long lost Giant friend on the other side.  Perhaps if I had a panzer tank that day I could have rolled over the crowd and the gate to get to the other side to view the photos of the Giant Hug.  Or maybe if I'd had a press pass.
